Play is nothing if not a cautionary tale. Through the essence of torturing oneself into mattering, we see how the inner pain of regret manifests itself in a very real, physical way. It begs the question “how can this Hell be avoided?” I hope to bring a violent boldness to Beckett’s call to action – that is, his demand of the audience to rise up and lead a life that matters. But what does it mean to matter?
